Next time use mortar and really fine sand. When you pour the concrete into the mold, make sure to vibrate the form to release all those holes (pukas) in the piston. Which will come out really clean and strong without any holes or cracks. 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽alohas

What's the base plastic of the filament as most still use PLA, if it's PLA may be try it again using standard PETG or ABS

I have to say that even if the outcome was easy to predict, the idea is pretty interesting about using a light-weight material as piston! Something that may last a bit longer is to produce a piston of the same stuff those Teflon-frypans is made of! 🤔 If they can stand a redhot stove, they should have a honest chance as pistons as well! /L

What about a milled hardwood piston? Should be easy to get accurate dimensions with CNC.

Try an Ultem material print (PEI)! It could maybe last. Same material as kapton tape. Stratasys printers offer a 9085 material with a heat deflection temperature that is above 300F! If I remember correctly, if you don't have one of their printers, they will print for you at cost or other vendors could. I'd love to see if that lasts! I'd throw machining PEEK out there, but that costs a fortune....

There are ceramic filaments that you print and then fire in a kiln to get rid of plastic and keep just the ceramic. Maybe this could work, or the top of the piston ceramic to withstand the temperature better, and bottom carbon fiber to withstand the mechanical stresses better

You should make 3d printed carbon fiber piston rings and exhaust and cylinder head

I mean, you can 3d print a metal piston that will last just fine in there. For proper carbon piston test you'd want to make it like formula one disc brakes. It involves "forged" carbon and curing them with silicon carbide and whatnot in a kiln. They'd feel like glass but super light and mostly indestructible. Probly want to still use metal rings and metal sleaves for wrist pin to go through.

Flo Pro Twister mufflers. They are built with auger flighting and hollow tube down the middle. My brother bought a pair for a 76 grand prix w/400 ci engine. Dual exhaust with a pair of these sound way better than cherry bomb muffler.

Looks like you mightve been able to get it to run much longer if you had a way to print around a think aluminum covering the top of the piston... which would still decrease the total weight of a piston...🤷‍♂️
